How To Deal With Being Jealous Of Your Partner’s Career

My question is, is it normal to feel resentment when you are with someone who wins big and you on the other hand lose big. And if the person who wins does not offer to share any of her winnings with you? I was in Atlantc City with a close friend who I had not seen in awhile. We went down on a Wednesday and played that evening. I would say we both played about even that night. I won a little, she won a little. The next day is when everything changed. We started out going to breakfast at Kelseys and Kims Restaurant which by the way the food was fantastic.

After breakfast I suggested that since we were on that side of town that I would like to go to Resorts and play a little. We ended up going there and I found a slot machine which looked interesting and began to play it. The machine was hitting pretty well as it had lots of combos of 2X 3X 5Xs reels which hit pretty often. My friend was on another on also. She was sitting in another row on the opposite side of the aisle.

I hit good combo and was collecting my winnings when one of the floor man tapped my arm and said my Friend asked him to get my attention. Her machine had hit a combo that I had never seen before.

It had triple, double, 5X 7s and 3xs all showing at the same time. At that time I was truly happy for her. We left there and went back to Trump Plaza. Went back to the room for a while and then decided to go play in the casino. I went to find my friend to tell her I was going back to the room. I finally spotted her playing on a machine and as I approached her she told me that the machine was really hot. I watched her for a few minutes and it seemed like each spin was paying off.

She was ecstatic. I was trying really hard to be happy for her, but I could feel myself feeling a little bit of jealousy as I had lost and couldn't seem to hit anything. After she received her handpay we went back up to the room.

She talking all the time about how lucky she was on this trip. I had told her that I did not win anything and had in fact lost what I had previously won. I said to her with all of your luck maybe you could pass some on to me, hoping she would offer to give me a little bit of her winnings. I did not ask her directly, but she started saying she had so much to do with the money she won. I took the hint and did not say anything else.

Me being a glutton for punishment later that night went back to the Casino and played again barely breaking even. The next day we were leaving and on the way to the bus depot at Ceasers, We were on the second level near the escalators, there are three machines wild stacked wolf II which I had played before and did very well on them. I decided to stop and play a little as we had a little time before the bus would leave.

There was an older gent. I sat at the first seat and my friend sat on a seat opposite the three machines. I told her to sit in my machine while I went to get change. When I returned the man had left and she was sitting in the seat he had vacated. I put my money in the machine and hit the button. Nothing I did two more spins no result.

Meanwhile she began to play the machine she was sitting at and on he first spin the screen lit up with wild wolves almost covering the whole screen. Meanwhile I spun again and the machine immediately begun to tilt saying call attendant. Ilooked around for an attendan which of course was nowhere to be found.

Her machine was hitting wild wolves on every spin and she kept commenting each time the machine would hit another win. By this time I was feeling like someone was out to get me. I know it was irrational, but I almost felt like crying as here I was sitting with a tilted machine, she had already won big and was now winning big again. She noticed the look on my face and said are you upset? I did not answer her and then an attendant came over to look at my machine.

She stated she had to put the machine out of order and would give me a slip to take to the cashier for payment. I took the slip back downstairs while my friend continued playiing her machine.

She cashed out and we continued to the bus stop. Me not saying anything and her chattering about how much she had won.

I tried not to feel so much resentment but I was having a hard time controlling my feelings. Was I wrong to feel this way and should she have offered to give me a little of her winnings as I had invited her to AC? I am not saying she was obligated but if I had been the big winner I definitely would have given her something.

I came home a loser. Sorry to hear you had a bad time playing. I personally would have bought you lunch or done something extra special but this isn't a friendship therapy board lol. I suggest you have other problems than resenting a friend who had a bit of good luck if you really felt that strongly it had nothing to do with your current circumstance.

I probably would have slipped you some money but that's just me. I can understand you feeling jealous about her winning and you losing, but unfortunately that is how it goes sometimes. The casino isn't built on winners so just know that I'm sure there were plenty of people in a much worse boat than you, and some day she will have a losing streak as well.

We all wish we were the winners. Even if the one who won is my husband, I don't expect anyone to spread his or her lucky winnings. I just think it's not my day, but it might be some other day.

That is an interesting and bittersweet story-happy for your friend's good fortune and sorry for your bad luck. I am a table games player, mostly BJ, Baccarat and craps, but I know the feeling when you are busting every time you take a hit and the clown next to you hits a hard 15 against a dealer's 6 up and always gets a good card.

You have to be able to take the losses well. Sic Transit Gloria,-"all fame is fleeting," and in the long run, it will even out. You are normal to feel the way you do as a little jealousy is human, but your friend is still a cheapskate for not offering to pay for dinner.

Question for you-if the next time you go and the situation is reversed, will you splurge for dinner? That is the way to show your friend how to be a good winner. You don't say a word about the trip before but you make it clear that you are willing to share the wealth.

Unless you two had some sort of agreement beforehand to share the winnings, I have no problem with her not doing so. Yes, a nice dinner would have been a great gesture on her part but such is life. Just enjoy and join in on the excitement of your friends good fortune, next time it may be reversed. I travel with a friend who, as I put it, sucks all the good luck there is out of whichever casino we are in. Once in Vegas I lost for the first 4 days while she won.

I stopped feeding the machines but she started slipping me 20's so I would keep her company. I still lost while she kept winning. While I felt jealous it keeps me laughing at myself and 5 years later the pattern remains. We are still friends and gamble together once a year when I fully expect to watch her win while I lose. I will share a quick story with you.

We went out to a nice dinner at Mj and we split the bill. I lost over bucks. I felt the same way. Well about a month later he called and said dude come on were going back.

That night I could do no worng almost every machine I was on paid and I had two hand pays. Overall I had a little over bucks. He turned to me and said come on dude dinner is on you. I reminded him of last month but I told him it is on me. BTW he was on a dollar machine when he hit. Well dinner was almost bucks we did drink a lot and he did not spare me on anything he got and kept joking he was going to eat worth of food.

I did not say a word. After dinner we played some more no luck and he had nothing left so we were leaving and passed by his machine and I said wait I am going to put a in and see what happens.

The look on his face was great I played for almost an hour and it hit for got the cash tip the girl gave him a smile and said now its time to go. I know it always does not work out that way but someone upstairs was looking out for me that night.

Life is to short to be bitter about money just enjoy everything you have. Winning is the fun part and being handed part of someone else's win doesn't make losing anymore pleasurable for me. She could have treated you to the bus fare since you got the room, no matter who won or lost.
