Not for me, please! Maria Godsey. Harriet Shugarman. Paul Hawken. Audible Audiobook. What Is Climate Change? What Was? Gail Herman. Recommended popular audiobooks. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Book 1. Where the Crawdads Sing. If It Bleeds. Little Fires Everywhere.
The book is brilliant. DeMocker teaches us that we can parent and save the Earth at the same time. Mary DeMocker is cofounder of She has written about conscious parenting and climate advocacy for the Sun , Common Dreams , Mothering. She lives with her family in Eugene, Oregon. All rights reserved. Stop recycling. Get off your bike, stop gardening, leave your cloth bag in the SUV, and bring hamburgers to the family picnic. Not by themselves, anyway. This book kicks aside that great myth so we can refocus our efforts on actions that can accomplish what those lifestyle actions intend: to build a livable future.
So, we need to stop adding more gases and reel back in the ones already out there. In fact, it takes only two steps: Stop Stupid. Stop deforestation. Stop farming and ranching in ways that unleash carbon. Stop releasing refrigerant gases and methane.
Those are the big-ticket items. To start Smart, we massively expand solar, wind, and wave power, conservation, tree planting, carbon farming, methane capture, local resilience, and more. And we sequester, price, and regulate carbon. All this requires is a simple switch in mind-set: Turn off Stupid, turn on Smart. Totally do-able. Except that there are madmen in charge who block Smart because they get richer with Stupid.
Most parents, when it comes to their own kids, know how to close down an out-of-control party. They assert authority. They shut off the tap, make everyone clean up and go home, and make new rules to avoid a repeat. We should have done this decisively when we found out in that burning coal, oil, and gas was cooking our planet. Instead, we let the party continue.
And yes, I mean that word. That means that, right now, we need to do more than just assert our rightful authority. Plus, this revolution is taking place everywhere, all over the world, which makes it easy to join. What does this climate revolution look like? And the solutions, though sometimes difficult, are equally simple: Keep fossil fuels in the ground, drastically cut emissions, and transition quickly to clean, renewable energy.
All you need is a beating heart and a desire for authentic solutions. Each of us inhabits multiple climates — the climate of our individual body and its health; the climate of our home, relationships, neighborhood, school, and job; and our national political and cultural climate. We each have a right to feel safe within all of these climates — a right to a safe workplace, good health care, safe shelter, and freedom from violence and oppression.
We have a right to healthy air, soil, and water. And all present and future generations have a right to a livable planet. All of these climates are deeply interconnected. From a pope! He gave us a clear moral directive for revolution, but perhaps not being a family man, he was a bit short on the details of exactly how parents might go about waging it.
The worldwide climate revolution boasts no savior or silver-bullet solution. That kind of transformation requires many maps, and this is the family-friendly one with plentiful games and snacks to sweeten the journey. Read more. Don't have a Kindle?

To be transparent, I thought I would like this book, the question was just how much. I live in Eugene, Oregon, and have been able to witness many of the actions the author describes.
What DeMocker has done is tell others how to get involved and have fun in the process. To answer my own question I evidently like this book a whole lot. The book is done in bite size pieces, but packed with information and ideas of how to take thinking to action and building community in the process. My prediction is it will be a huge hit, rightly so. If you are a parent, grandparent, teacher, or citizen interested in the issue of climate change and also would like hope and inspiration on this topic, I highly recommend this book.
What an absolute joy to read. My handbook for and beyond. As a millennial, it's easy for me to feel overwhelmed and helpless when our climate is literally being threatened by the very institutions that should be protecting it. This book provides realistic and 'doable' actions that anyone can take, but especially parents raising the next generation. This book is worth the money for the resources ALONE, but DeMocker's humor and approachable writing style gives me the dose of tangible hope I need to motivate me to be the change my nephews and nieces need me to be.
It's written with parents in mind, but honestly I love how it's broken down into short literally page MAX chapters with resources at the end of each chapter. This book is on sale as I type, so if you buy one book this year, treat yourself to this one. Some really great and novel approaches that we all need to be pursuing, every day. One of my favorite books of ! Here is why: 1 I often feel paralyzed about what to do about climate change and this book has tons of great ideas on things I can do right now, even if I only have 5 minutes.
My kids are in their 20s and I am loving this book. Buy this book for yourself and everyone you know! Imagine what we can accomplish together if each put some of Mary's ideas into action.

Like many of you, I have loved Star Wars from my early childhood on and have been eagerly awaiting the seventh addition to the Star Wars saga ever since it was first announced. If you were disappointed in the prequels and longed for a return to the feel and emotion of the original trilogy, be excited! The Force Awakens brings back the spirit of the original movies. The human emotion, the lived-in environments, and the practical effects are all there, and there are many comparisons to the story and mood of A New Hope.

I Still Love You , which landed on the streaming platform on Feb. And, dear reader, I am here to say it was just as wonderful as the first. But as she celebrates all of her relationship firsts with Peter — like her first actual date — the ever-introspective Lara Jean struggles with balancing her relationship with Peter, being in her own head about basically everything, reuniting with her fifth letter recipient, John Ambrose McClaren Jordan Fisher , and focusing on who she is and wants to be as a person and a girlfriend. If your kids, tweens, and teens are just as excited as we were to devour the second installment of this adorable movie franchise — based on books of the same name by author Jenny Han — there are just a few things you should know going in. But spoiler alert: this movie is as wholesome as it gets and there's nearly nothing to not love about all of its characters. Ultimately, Lara Jean is a great role model for young kids and teens — she's not perfect, she speaks up for herself when she needs to, she denies having an underage alcoholic beverage not once, but twice in the span of a few minutes in this installment, and she often stresses the importance of following her heart but staying true to herself through her actions. Although LJ struggles just like anyone else, especially other teens, she's usually aware of what she needs — or at least what she should do to figure out what she needs — and works through her issues in her head, as well as with her friends and family. One way LJ speaks up for herself is in a scene with Peter in which they're in his car parked in front of her house. The pair starts kissing while Lara Jean narrates her concerns with what Peter used to do with his ex-girlfriend, Gen, and Lara Jean chooses the moment to share that she isn't ready to have sex yet. Immediately after her admission, she and Peter have a pretty clear chat about consent and readiness even though it's layered with metaphors.
