Any attempts at making an album under these conditions should have met with unmitigated disaster, but on L. Self-produced and recorded in their private rehearsal space, the album was a homecoming in both a musical and spiritual sense. Morrison left on an extended trip to Paris as the final mixes were being prepared, hoping to rediscover his muse in the City of Light. He would never return: The singer died there in July

The group never added a bass player, and their sound was dominated by Manzarek's electric organ work and Morrison's deep, sonorous voice, with which he sang and intoned his highly poetic lyrics. Like "Light My Fire," the debut album was a massive hit, and endures as one of the most exciting, groundbreaking recordings of the psychedelic era. Blending blues, classical, Eastern music, and pop into sinister but beguiling melodies, the band sounded like no other.

With his rich, chilling vocals and somber poetic visions, Morrison explored the depths of the darkest and most thrilling aspects of the psychedelic experience.

Their first effort was so stellar, in fact, that the Doors were hard-pressed to match it, and although their next few albums contained a wealth of first-rate material, the group also began running up against the limitations of their recklessly disturbing visions.

By their third album, they had exhausted their initial reservoir of compositions, and some of the tracks they hurriedly devised to meet public demand were clearly inferior to, and imitative of, their best early work. O n The Soft Parade, the group experimented with brass sections, with mixed results. Accused without much merit by much of the rock underground as pop sellouts, the group charged back hard with the final two albums they recorded with Morrison, on which they drew upon stone-cold blues for much of their inspiration, especially on 's L.

From the start, the Doors' focus was the charismatic Morrison, who proved increasingly unstable over the group's brief career. In , Morrison was arrested for indecent exposure during a concert in Miami, an incident that nearly derailed the band. Nevertheless, the Doors managed to turn out a series of successful albums and singles through , when, upon the completion of L. Woman, Morrison decamped for Paris.

He died there, apparently of a drug overdose. The three surviving Doors tried to carry on without him, but ultimately disbanded. Yet the Doors' music and Morrison's legend continued to fascinate succeeding generations of rock fans: In the mid-'80s, Morrison was as big a star as he'd been in the mid-'60s, and Elektra has sold numerous quantities of the Doors' original albums plus reissues and releases of live material over the years, while publishers have flooded bookstores with Doors and Morrison biographies.

Got to find the dock on the bay Maybe find it back in L. The lights are getting brighter The radio is moaning Calling to the dogs There are still a few animals Left out in the yard But it's getting harder To describe sailors To the underfed Tropic corridor Tropic treasure What got us this far To this mild equator We need someone or something new Something else to get us through Calling on the dogs Calling on the dogs Calling on the dogs Calling on the dogs Calling in the dogs Calling all the dogs Calling on the gods Meet me at the crossroads Meet me at the edge of town Outskirts of the city Just you and I And the evening sky You'd better come alone You'd better bring your gun We're gonna have some fun When all else fails We can whip the horses' eyes And make them sleep And cry Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel Yeah, we're goin' to the Roadhouse Gonna have a real Good time Yeah, in back of the Roadhouse they got some bungalows Yeah, in back of the Roadhouse they got some bungalows And that's for the people Who like to go down slow Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, all night long Ashen lady, Ashen lady Give up your vows, give up your vows Save our city, save our city Right now Well, I woke up this morning, I got myself a beer Yeah, I woke up this morning, and I got myself a beer The future's uncertain, and the end is always near Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, baby, roll Let it roll, all night long.

Standing there on freedom's shore. Waiting for the sun Waiting for the sun Waiting for the sun. Can you feel it, now that spring has come? That it's time to live In the scattered sun. Waiting for the sun. Waiting for you to Come along. Waiting for you to Hear my song. Waiting for you to come along.

Waiting for you to tell me what went wrong. This is the strangest life I've ever known. Can't you feel it, now that spring has come? You make me real I really want you, really do. Really need you baby, God knows I do. You make me real. You make me feel like lovers feel. You make me throw away mistake and misery. Make me free, love, make me free.

I really want you, really do. Really need you baby, really do. Well I'm not real enough without you; Oh, what can I do? Only you, baby have that appeal. So let me slide in your tender sunken sea. Roll now, baby, roll Well, roll now, baby, roll You gotta roll now, baby, roll Roll now, honey, roll You gotta roll now, baby, roll Make me free You make me real.

Make me free, You make me free. Peace frog There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles There's blood on the streets, it's up to my knee Blood on the streets in the town of Chicago Blood on the rise, it's following me She came Just about the break of day She came, then she drove away Sunlight in her hair Blood in the streets runs a river of sadness Blood in the streets it's up to my thigh The river runs red down the legs of the city The women are crying red rivers of weeping She came into town and then she drove away Sunlight in her hair Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile egg-shell mind Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice Blood in my love in the terrible summer Bloody red sun of fantastic L.

Blood screams her brain as they chop off her fingers Blood will be born in the birth of a nation Blood is the rose of mysterious union There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles Blood in the streets, it's up to my knee Blood in the streets of the town of Chicago Blood on the rise, it's following me.

Doors’ ‘L.A. Woman’: 10 Things You Didn’t Know

Jim Morrison's electrifying live performances, and appetite for sexual and psychedelic experience enflamed the spirit of a generation. In Jim Morrison , critically acclaimed journalist Stephen Davis brings together insights gleaned from dozens of original interviews, long-lost recordings, and Morrison's own unpublished journals to create a vivid portrait of a misunderstood genius. Each page brims with new details on every phase of Morrison's life, from his troubled youth in a strict military household, to his coming of age in the avant-garde scene of s LA, his epic alcohol and drug binges, and sexual affairs. In a gripping final chapter, Davis synthesizes new evidence recently uncovered in Paris to resolve at last many of the mysteries surrounding Morrison's death, and reconstructs the final days and hours of America's greatest rock star.

Get Out Of My Life, Woman Lyrics

When can we, yeah can we, work it out? Meditation just makes you more strung out I wish you had a guru to tell you to let it go, let it go. I wanna walk through the park in the dark Men are scared that women will laugh at them I wanna walk through the park in the dark Women are scared that men will kill them I hold my keys Between my fingers. I wanna walk through the park in the dark Men are scared that women will laugh at them I wanna walk through the park in the dark Women are scared that men will kill them.

O n the morning of 8 May, , I stepped off a train in the German town of Germersheim, where I was studying to be a translator. I got on my bike and was about to cycle away when I noticed another woman trying to board the train. Still on my bike, I stuck my hand in the closing door to keep it open for her.

THE MATRIX - 03/07/1967

I hated his self-destruction … He was a kamikaze who went out at 27 — what can I say? Quite a lot, it transpires. Morrison was a man who was spectacularly good at being a rock star — a lithe figure in leather trousers, prophesying about death, sex and magic on some of the biggest hits of the s — Light My Fire, Break on Through and Hello, I Love You. But he was catastrophically bad at the rest of life. Like many alcoholics, he could be reckless, selfish and mercurial. He had lobbied to get Morrison off the road before his death, and even quit the band at one point. So what if we have one less album? It was another era.

Everyone I've met thus far in my life has played a part in my story. And while some have taken up chapters, most just scribbled notes in the margins.
